Psalm 61:1-2

    1      Hear my cry, O God;
    Attend to my prayer.
    2      From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
    When my heart is overwhelmed;
    Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
-Psalm 61:1-2

There are two matters that we must establish in our hearts as we come before the Lord in prayer. Those two are faith and humility. When we approach God we must have faith. We must believe that He is, we must believe that He hears us, and we must believe that He will answer. The importance of faith before God is pronounced all throughout the word of God. Few of us fail to recognize the importance of such a matter though the emphasis placed on it should grow evermore.

Humility is one that we must dial into even more. We understand that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. If we come before Him with pride in our hearts, our prayers remain hindered. Carry this same attitude of coming before the rock that is higher than ourselves. If we come before Him just from obligation still believing we can handle it ourselves we come in vain. However, if we come from desperation eager to see Him move, we will. Seek the Lord, therefore, in faith and humility.
