Psalm 60:5-12

  5      That Your beloved may be delivered,
    Save with Your right hand, and hear me.

    6      God has spoken in His holiness:
    “I will rejoice;
    I will divide Shechem
    And measure out the Valley of Succoth.
    7      Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine;
    Ephraim also is the helmet for My head;
    Judah is My lawgiver.
    8      Moab is My washpot;
    Over Edom I will cast My shoe;
    Philistia, shout in triumph because of Me.”

    9      Who will bring me to the strong city?
    Who will lead me to Edom?
    10      Is it not You, O God, who cast us off?
    And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies?
    11      Give us help from trouble,
    For the help of man is useless.
    12      Through God we will do valiantly,
    For it is He who shall tread down our enemies.
-Psalm 60:5-12

We all have experienced how our flesh can be extremely troublesome and a rather daunting foe. We also know as we have gone through these psalms how the Lord resists and opposes our flesh. Therefore, to an extent the Lord has cast us off. Yet is He not the One who gives us such victory over our flesh? When God acts He acts with purpose. Much of our Christian walk is learning God's purpose and moving in alignment with that.

The Lord is our help from trouble. I love how simply this Psalm puts it, "The help of man is useless." There is nothing man can accomplish that God cannot. There is an infinite amount more that God can do and man cannot. So many times have I been convicted by the fact that I love to depend on my own strength and the strength of other men. Yet so seldom had I sought the Lord. Turn quickly to prayer and run in haste into the arms of the Father! For there you will find comfort and help in times of need.
