Psalm 59:1-5
1Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;
Defend me from those who rise up against me.
2Deliver me from the workers of iniquity,
And save me from bloodthirsty men.
3For look, they lie in wait for my life;
The mighty gather against me,
Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord.
4They run and prepare themselves through no fault of mine.
Awake to help me, and behold!
5You therefore, O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel,
Awake to punish all the nations;
Do not be merciful to any wicked transgressors.
-Psalm 59:1-5
I am sure we have all been through situations that was not caused of any fault of our own. Whether that be in the case of persecution like within this passage, or in things in life simply happening that don't go our way. Whatever it may be the reality stands that things happen in our lives that are without our cause. What should our attitude be when this happens? Do we turn blame the devil for everything? Do we blame God? Do we blame others?
While we may try to find a scapegoat to place the blame upon it ultimately profits nothing. If, like in the above passage, there is someone clearly at blame follow suit with what David does here. He turns to God. He comes forward in prayer asking for justice to be done. This should be our attitude in all circumstances. As my mentor would tell me, sometimes life just happens and sometimes that life just happens all day long. We have a choice as to let circumstances get the better of us or allow circumstances to make us better. Cling whole heartedly to the Lord that when things happen we are not stuck in the blame loop but draw ever nearer to the Lord.
