Psalm 46:10-11
10Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
11The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.
-Psalm 46:10-11
There is such a profound message in this passage that we should draw near to in the chaotic and busy nature of our culture. As Americans our attitude is to GO. We hold it as a badge of honor to be busy. When we can't find anything to be busy with we busy ourselves with searching out the next thing. Half the time we can't get halfway through one project before thinking of the next. This habit then translates into our quiet time and bible study. We become bored so quickly of bible study because we excite to busy our minds with something else. We have in many ways forgotten the art of being still.
We often are tempted to want to fix all our problems ourselves. We feel the need to try to make rapid progress in our faith and do everything we can to get to a place we want to be at. Stop. Be still. Learn to rest in the secret place. Everything else can and will wait. It is far too easy to busy ourselves with chores, work, and the world. Be still and learn to know that He is God. Learn to enjoy your time in His presence. Become rejuvenated in Him. Like that sip of ice cold lemonade after working out in the sun all day, take in the Lord. It is busy and exhausting work following the pace of the world. There is true and abundant rest in the presence of God. Take a deep breath and be still. Set your eyes upon God and rest in Him.
