Psalm 46:1-3

1God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
2Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.
-Psalm 46:1-3

We live in a culture endowed with fear. From covid, to political tension, to economic dissension almost everyone we encounter exists in some form of fear. This takes place even within our own churches. It doesn't take long in listening to Christian radio to hear that most of the songs being produced today are in some way combative against fear. Fear is everywhere within our culture. It is being pushed and promoted at every corner. However, we as believers ought not to fear.

Where fear is in the mind of all those who are set upon it, the Lord is on the mind of all who trust in Him. He is our refuge and strength and our help in times of trouble. What does this mean? When our refuge is in Him, if all else crumbles our refuge still stands. When He is our strength, if all comes to weakness we can still stand strong. When He is our help, if all turns to helplessness we still have an outstretched arm. Therefore we ought to not fear. Even in the earth being removed or the mountains sinking in the sea our God still holds firm.

Put your trust in Him. If fear is present on your mind I encourage you to examine what that is and why. Learn to depend on Him as your refuge and your strength, having your help in Him. We do not have to live in fear, but we can live in freedom.
