Psalm 41:4-13

    4      I said, “LORD, be merciful to me;
    Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.”
    5      My enemies speak evil of me:
    “When will he die, and his name perish?”
    6      And if he comes to see me, he speaks lies;
    His heart gathers iniquity to itself;
    When he goes out, he tells it.

    7      All who hate me whisper together against me;
    Against me they devise my hurt.
    8      “An evil disease,” they say, “clings to him.
    And now that he lies down, he will rise up no more.”
    9      Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted,
    Who ate my bread,
    Has lifted up his heel against me.

    10      But You, O LORD, be merciful to me, and raise me up,
    That I may repay them.
    11      By this I know that You are well pleased with me,
    Because my enemy does not triumph over me.
    12      As for me, You uphold me in my integrity,
    And set me before Your face forever.

    13      Blessed be the LORD God of Israel
    From everlasting to everlasting!
    Amen and Amen.
-Psalm 41:4-13

Offense and betrayal are things that we have all experienced to some extent. For some the offenses are greater and other less so. As we contemplate this my mind immediately goes to Jesus. I've had to endure plenty of offense but nothing anywhere close to the offense and betrayal Jesus had in His earthly ministry. Just as Jesus lived out how to respond to offense, He also taught on it quite a bit.

7 Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!
-Matthew 18:7

Jesus does not teach that offenses will not come. He also does not teach that the offenses are not offensive. They are very real and are very offensive. But we must be cautious on how we handle offenses in our lives.

14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
-Matthew 6:14-15

Walk in forgiveness and allow for the Lord to take vengeance. Walk in integrity and do not allow for yourself to succumb so low that you enter into sin because of someone else's offense to you. The Lord is faithful and just. Take confidence in that as you seek to walk in obedience to the Lord.
