Psalm 40:5

5Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works
Which You have done;
And Your thoughts toward us
Cannot be recounted to You in order;
If I would declare and speak of them,
They are more than can be numbered.
-Psalm 40:5

As we have been on the subject of being creative in our praise to the Lord I find this particular verse to be very encouraging for us. Many are the wonderful works of the Lord. There are countless things we can offer praise to the Lord for just in His works alone. We can praise not just for the works He has yet done but that which He will do. However there is one area of praise that even I often forget: His thoughts toward us.

Did you know that the Lord thinks about you? This may seem like a trifle of a question to some, but to those like myself this is incredibly humbling. David is saying that the amount that the Lord thinks of us cannot be numbered. One of the things in my life that has made me feel appreciated and cared for more than most is when I get a message randomly from someone saying that they were thinking of me or sharing what made them think of me. I always saw it as a sweet gesture to know that I matter to them. People do not think of those things that do not matter to those, so if they're thinking of me, it is because I matter to them. In that same line of thinking, I matter to God. You matter to God.

The Lord has thought of you and continues to think of you. He plans your steps and guides your way seeking to lead you in the way everlasting. He cherishes and delights in you. Surely we can all share in that praise at the start of 1 John 3.

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!
-1 John 3:1a
