Psalm 39:6

6Surely every man walks about like a shadow;
Surely they busy themselves in vain;
He heaps up riches,
And does not know who will gather them.
-Psalm 39:6

In my last devotion I had written something that was shared with me. Let us lose what we cannot keep to gain what we cannot lose. No thing in this life is transferable to eternity. What we see on earth as being wise ends up being utter foolishness. Vanity, vanity, all is vanity, as the writer says in Ecclesiastes.

Jesus shares a parable of a rich man. He stored up his riches and built bigger barns and silos to store all of his riches. Looking upon it in pride a fateful time came to him. The Lord called the rich man a fool, for that night He had requirements of his soul. We can so easily find ourselves working and striving for things in this life that we neglect where are riches should be stored.

Take heed to Jesus' words, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matt. 6:21). The Lord will gather all things to Himself. See that your treasure is found in Him, for the work we work unto the Lord is not in vain. There are things that are for here, though those are not what we are here for. It is not wrong to have things, nor money, possession or any such thing. Though it is a huge problem when those have you. Set your eyes upon eternity. Lose what you cannot keep to gain what you cannot lose.
