Psalm 39:3b-5

Then I spoke with my tongue:
4“Lord, make me to know my end,
And what is the measure of my days,
That I may know how frail I am.
5Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths,
And my age is as nothing before You;
Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor.
-Psalm 39:3a-5

This is a prayer we should all acquaint ourselves with very closely. Understanding the fact that here is not forever allows us to gain a heart of wisdom. We can have wisdom in the vision we have in our lives and the way we practice will be effective. In having this perspective we can much more easily be a spiritually minded people who have eternity stamped on our eyes.

One of the most common job interview questions I have heard is, "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" Of course there have been many iterations of this question, though the point remains the same: what are you working towards? What is the vision you have set for your life? I think as believers we should take this much further. Where do you see yourself in 500 years? Now before you answer dead remember that we are alive in Christ Jesus. Is what you are practicing today beneficial to that 500 year plan? Let us be wise in our conduct and live for eternity. Let us lose what we cannot keep to gain what we cannot lose.
