Psalm 37:27-29
27Depart from evil, and do good;
And dwell forevermore.
28For the Lord loves justice,
And does not forsake His saints;
They are preserved forever,
But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.
29The righteous shall inherit the land,
And dwell in it forever.
-Psalm 37:27-29
Dwell in a place of goodness. Evil abounds in our culture. We see it in movies, games, music, books, media, billboards, commercials, and in people all around us. The unfortunate reality is that so many believers have simply accepted this as a way of life and have participated in it all the same. Whereas Scripture instructs us to depart from evil, several have interpreted that as depart from some evil.
While there may be many reasons for allowing wickedness into our lives, I have found a decrease in love for the goodness of God and an increase in love for worldly things. There is a detachment from loving what the Lord loves and hating what He hates.
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
1 John 2:15–16.
We must separate ourselves from a worldly mindset and adopt a heavenly mindset. Romans 12 teaches us that we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. Ephesians 5 teaches us how. It is by the washing of the water of the Word that we are sanctified. Let the spirit of your mind be renewed that you would think rightly concerning the things of this world and the things of the Lord. Right thinking leads to right living.
And dwell forevermore.
