Psalm 37:12-15
12The wicked plots against the just,
And gnashes at him with his teeth.
13The Lord laughs at him,
For He sees that his day is coming.
14The wicked have drawn the sword
And have bent their bow,
To cast down the poor and needy,
To slay those who are of upright conduct.
15Their sword shall enter their own heart,
And their bows shall be broken.
-Psalm 37:12-15
There are many passages in Scripture that bring a smile to my face and several that make me laugh. This one does both for me. The wicked plot against the just, living in enmity with them. They gnash their teeth and devise schemes to bring the just down. They strive to bring destruction upon the righteous. How does the Lord respond? He laughs at them. He sees their end and the vanity of their schemes and so He laughs at them. They cannot see the vanity of their ways, but He sees clearly the end that awaits them.
The wicked reap what they sow. As they have sown wickedness and destruction against the righteous so shall they reap. Instead of the sword cutting down the poor and needy and the upright, they themselves are cut down. The bows they have bent to wreak destruction against the righteous are broken. They are left powerless against the Lord. Take heart as the enemy and the wicked scheme against you. The Lord laughs at them as their day approaches.
