Psalm 37:7-11

7Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
8Cease from anger, and forsake wrath;
Do not fret—it only causes harm.

9For evildoers shall be cut off;
But those who wait on the Lord,
They shall inherit the earth.
10For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more;
Indeed, you will look carefully for his place,
But it shall be no more.
11But the meek shall inherit the earth,
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
-Psalm 37:7-11

Rest in the Lord.
That has always been such a soothing command to me. During times of great anticipation for me as a kid, I always wanted to be around my family. It helped me to slow down and not get caught up in my own mind as the anticipation grows more and more. To rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him brings about the ability to thoroughly carry out the next few verses. We do not fret at the wicked prospering in their wickedness. We cease from anger and forsake wrath. We are only able to do so as we rest in the Lord and waiting patiently for Him. What are we waiting patiently for?

We are waiting for His judgment to come. Those who are prospering in wickedness will be cut off. Their prospering is only temporary. Yet those who are waiting on the Lord will reap their reward: inheriting the earth. Wickedness does not earn the wealth and power it seems to hold now. They labor in vain to build something that God does not build. So like a sand castle built too close to the ocean it will be wiped away. Those who rest in the Lord will delight themselves in the abundance of peace. Do not fret over the wicked and the way they prosper. Let your eyes be set upon the Lord. Pursue Him and rest in Him. Your reward is yet coming.
