Psalm 37:1-4

    1      Do not fret because of evildoers,
    Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
    2      For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
    And wither as the green herb.

    3      Trust in the LORD, and do good;
    Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
    4      Delight yourself also in the LORD,
    And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
-Psalm 37:1-4

The work of the wicked is something that we can easily get ourselves caught up in. "This person lied! This guy cheated! I can't believe they would do that!" So much of modern conversation can revolve around the wrong that others do. We become appalled at the idea of people doing wrong to us. We become envious at the success that we see wicked men or women have by cheating their way to the top. All in all, we fret so easily from evildoers. However, we are not to be so caught up in the wickedness that surrounds us. The word of God offers another option for us.

We are to trust in the Lord and do good. It is an interesting thing that this is the alternative to fretting because of evil. If we are so focused on evil and wickedness it becomes easy to doubt the Lord and His judgments. Goodness seems trivial when so many are succeeding in wickedness. Delight yourself instead in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. It is important to understand that the desires of our hearts change drastically when we are delighting in the Lord. We no longer are so concerned with the trivial success it appears the wicked have. Why? Because our delight is not in earthly success or giving into the desires of our flesh. Instead it is in the Lord.

Do not let wickedness cause you to fret when the goodness of God is yet so near. Let your thoughts be occupied with Him. Delight in Him and give Him praise. The judgment upon the wicked is yet coming, and reward to you is near. Seek the Lord while He may be found.
