Psalm 36:5-9

    5      Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens;
    Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
    6      Your righteousness is like the great mountains;
    Your judgments are a great deep;
    O LORD, You preserve man and beast.

    7      How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!
    Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.
    8      They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house,
    And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures.
    9      For with You is the fountain of life;
    In Your light we see light.
-Psalm 36:5-9

As a contrast to the wickedness explored in the previous section, we are presented with the glorious mercy of our Lord. While wickedness persists, the mercy of the Lord persists all the more. He is merciful, faithful, and righteous. His judgments are perfect. His love is precious.

I find the response to the goodness of God displayed in this passage to be telling. While in one breath we are acknowledging the fear of the Lord and necessity of it, we are also recognizing God's goodness in the next. These two are not separate from each other. We fear the Lord and depart from evil and in the Lord's goodness we are drawn to Him. We put our trust in His protection and are abundantly satisfied with the sufficiency of the Lord. Following the way of the Lord we are filled with pleasure. We are given life and we are given light.

Recognize today the majesty of the Lord in His goodness. Praise Him for His mercy, faithfulness, righteousness, judgments, preservation, and lovingkindness. Delight yourself in Him and trust in in the shadow of His wings.
