Psalm 34:15-18
15The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
And His ears are open to their cry.
16The face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
17The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears,
And delivers them out of all their troubles.
18The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart,
And saves such as have a contrite spirit.
-Psalm 34:15-18
The eyes of the Lord being upon the righteous is symbolic of the favor of the Lord being upon the righteous. He looks upon them understanding their trials, needs, and listens to them intently. It is a natural body language process to turn toward those that you are listening to. In fact, it shows that you are being attentive to what the other person is saying. In like manner, the Lord is turned toward the righteous with intent to listen to their cries. However, for the wicked the face of the Lord is set against them in opposition.
As we have talked about in a few of these, it is important for us to understand who the righteous are. As we read this today, the simply answer is those who are in Christ Jesus. We have been made righteous in the sight of God. As such, the Lord is intently looking upon us while listening for us. He hears your prayers and is your deliverer. As we are broken before Him, He brings restoration. As we mourn before Him, He brings us comfort. Praise the Lord for the gracious works of His hands!
And His ears are open to their cry.
