Psalm 33:10-17

    10      The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
    He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.
    11      The counsel of the LORD stands forever,
    The plans of His heart to all generations.
    12      Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,
    The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.

    13      The LORD looks from heaven;
    He sees all the sons of men.
    14      From the place of His dwelling He looks
    On all the inhabitants of the earth;
    15      He fashions their hearts individually;
    He considers all their works.

    16      No king is saved by the multitude of an army;
    A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
    17      A horse is a vain hope for safety;
    Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.
-Psalm 33:10-17

There is great peril in putting our trust in men. There is great threat to us if we should put our dependance upon our governments. This is not to say that all government is bad or that we should take no part in it, but we ought not to put our trust in it. We are still instructed to submit. So what happens if we do put our trust in government or in men? As they are brought to nothing, so is your hope.

If I were to say that I am putting all of my hope in a chip, that the flavor would last me all of my days and that I would be sustained by it, I would be called a lunatic. The flavor wouldn't last anymore than one bite. I would never be able to be sustained by it. It is overwhelmingly temporary and not at all worth my hope. In like manner, governments, men, and any such thing is temporary. However, the Lord stands forever.

No king or ruler is protected by their walls from the Lord. Neither is the people within the nation. It is foolish to trust in defenses or military prowess. It is foolish to trust in man made currency. Rather our trust must be in the Lord and Him alone. The Lord sees all and is able to give sustenance continually. Your reward will ultimately be found in Him.
