Psalm 33:1-3

    1      Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful.
    2      Praise the LORD with the harp;
    Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings.
    3      Sing to Him a new song;
    Play skillfully with a shout of joy.
-Psalm 33:1-3

The praise we have for the Lord is found beautiful in His sight. Likewise it is beautiful in the sight of the saints of the Most High. The incredible thing about praise is the fact that there are so many ways in which we can offer it. The context of this passage is within music and offering praise through song. I find this to be incredibly telling about the artfulness of offering praise to the Lord, however I want to focus on the last line in this passage.

    Play skillfully with a shout of joy.

When we offer praise to the Lord, do we bring the best we have to offer? There have been several points in my life that I have noticed how half effort my praise can seem. It would seem I would stop short of giving thanks for family, country, life, and salvation. My creativity with praise was absent because I just did it out of duty instead of genuinely giving the praise that was due His name.

Learn to become creative in your praise. Pray these psalms to the Lord and let them become the language you use in bringing your own praise before God. Those of us who have been in the faith for some time should be skillful in the praise we have before the Lord. Take some time to meditate upon new praise that you can offer and do so joyfully. Make it a new practice where you become creative in your thankfulness. It is found beautiful in the sight of God.
