Psalm 3
1Lord, how they have increased who trouble me!
Many are they who rise up against me.
2Many are they who say of me,
“There is no help for him in God.”
Selah
3But You, O Lord, are a shield for me,
My glory and the One who lifts up my head.
4I cried to the Lord with my voice,
And He heard me from His holy hill.
Selah
5I lay down and slept;
I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.
6I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people
Who have set themselves against me all around.
7Arise, O Lord;
Save me, O my God!
For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone;
You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.
8Salvation belongs to the Lord.
Your blessing is upon Your people.
Selah
-Psalm 3
Trials and Tribulations. Two words we become more and more familiar with as life goes on. Many of the biblical figures we look up to have shown themselves to be well accustomed to them as well. From Adam, to Noah, throughout Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and even Jesus, we see trail is close to those who seek the Lord. This particular psalm comes from David and is believed to have been written as he flees from his own son, Absalom.
In his fleeing he recounts the words that people question the Lord's help. This is just like the enemy to use trial and tribulation to cause you to doubt the help of God. What I would like for us to focus on in this is not the trial, but the response to the trial. David spends the rest of the psalm recognizing how the Lord has previously helped him, is helping him, and will yet continue to help him. For a man running from town to town, cave to cave, fleeing for his life from his own son to be able to find how the Lord has been his sustenance we should be able to as well.
This kind of attitude comes from having a heavenly mindset and heart set upon the Lord. See that the Lord has been your salvation. Remember what it is that the Lord has pulled you from before and rejoice in those things. Should you be in the midst of trial now, take some extra time to consider the ways that the Lord is in it already. "Salvation belongs to the Lord." So continue to trust in the Lord who is a deliverer of His people, help in time of need, and peace amidst anxiety.
