Hebrews 5:12-14 | What am I going to do about it?

Seek It Out

    My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you,
    2      So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
    And apply your heart to understanding;
    3      Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
    And lift up your voice for understanding,
    4      If you seek her as silver,
    And search for her as for hidden treasures;
    5      Then you will understand the fear of the LORD,
    And find the knowledge of God.
    6      For the LORD gives wisdom;
    From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
    7      He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
    He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
    8      He guards the paths of justice,
    And preserves the way of His saints.
    9      Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
    Equity and every good path.
-Proverbs 2:1-9
Yesterday, I quoted Proverbs 2:10-22. This is the rest of the chapter. It is suiting when talking about the application of Hebrews 5:12-14 for me to go into Proverbs 2. It is one of the best directions we have for how to have our minds renewed. We must seek it.

It is a well-known fact that most believers do not read their Bibles at all. It is no wonder then how so many believers lack maturity and discernment in their lives. They have nothing but a 30-minute sermon on a Sunday morning to train their senses to discern good and evil. In order for the word to be in you, you must be in the word. It is possible for someone to be in the word and the word not be in them, but it is entirely impossible for someone who is not in the word to have the word in them. If you are not trained by Scripture, you simply will not grow.

This proverb teaches us an important lesson about values. Do you value the word of the Lord? Do you value what He speaks? Do you value what has been preserved for millennia by the Lord for you to know Him? Do you seek the Lord in prayer and ask for wisdom? Look at the evidence of your life and tell me if you value Him as you ought. Most I know would say no. Purify yourself in the sight of God and run to Him! See that His words are much more precious than gold or fine silver. Taste and see that the Lord is good. He is worth all of it and more. Give yourself over to Him. Apply yourself to understanding. He is worth it.

What application are you implementing today?
