John 20 | What's the lesson for me today?

30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
-John 20:30-31

Just as for the lesson of the original audience, I must ask myself the same question: do I believe? We may very well think that we believe certain things. We may believe that the government will implode on itself this afternoon. If such a thing were to happen, what would you do in preparation? If you truly believe it, I would imagine there would be action to follow it up. If you simply conceptually think it to be true, I would not expect much, if any, action. Jesus taught heavily that faith is followed up by action. James teaches that faith without works is dead. So as I look at my own life, I must ask the question with eyes ready to examine: do I believe?

We see all throughout Scripture the impacts of belief versus unbelief. For those who are in unbelief, we see instability, repetitious sin, works of the flesh, etc. But for those who truly believe, we see the fruit of the Spirit, we see stability and assuredness, we see everlasting joy. When you examine your own life, what do you see? This may be revealing as to the extent at which you belief goes. I for one do not want to settle at the idea that I mostly believe. I want sincere belief. A great place to explore when it comes to the importance of faith and what faith looks like is the book of Hebrews. We have an important message given towards the end of the book.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
-Hebrews 11:6

If I settle for mostly believing, I will settle for mostly pleasing God. But if I rise up to being full of faith, I may be fully pleasing to the Lord.

10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God
-Colossians 1:10

Let us walk full of faith and read John 20 with a heart of sincere belief. Pray that the Lord would help your unbelief.

What lesson are you taking from this?
