Hebrews 8:1-6 | What's the connection?

The Resolution

After a rather long form argument, we make our way to where we are at in Hebrews 8. The lesson thus far has continued to be that Jesus is better. He is supreme. For anything that the law could have offered, Jesus offers it in better form. The Hebrews may have had a tabernacle, but the Jesus ministers in the true tabernacle, the true dwelling of the Lord.

This passage both acts as a summary of the previous section and an introduction to the next section. There is an important interjection that ties all of them together and it is this.
4 For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law; 5 who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle.
-Hebrews 8:4-5
When the purpose of the law was to serve as a shadow of the things to come, when the substance is there, what does that do to the shadow? Jesus cannot be the shadow of things to come and the substance thereof. The law then becomes a restriction to the Messiah. That is why there is then a testimony of something better coming with Jesus. He ministers a better covenant with better promises. The Old Covenant got us up to this point. The announcement has been made and the king is here. Now it is time for the New Covenant. Rather than being ruled by the letter of the law, we can be ruled by the Spirit of the law.

The conversation of Jesus being better gets to continue! But what connections are you seeing in this text?
