John 3:1-21 | What's the lesson for me today?

A lot of believers who have now received the Lord and are born again move on beyond this passage and simply have thanksgiving in their hearts for being saved. I do not believe that we ever graduate from the Gospel message. Rather, we grow further into it. If you are born again, the lesson remains. How are you saved? We are saved by looking unto Jesus. Let's put this to the test as to whether or not we really do this.

When we are dead in trespasses and sins, how do we overcome it? Through looking unto Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

When we are struggling with temptation, how do we overcome it? Through looking unto Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

When we are dealing with past hurts and unforgiveness, how do we overcome it? Through looking unto Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

When we are doubting our salvation because of an array of problems, how do we over come it? Through looking unto Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

I could go on and on in this list. The reality is that Jesus is not simply our Savior in light of having once been sinners and now are justified. He is our Savior in sanctification as well. As we are going through and walking the walk that we do, we must keep our eyes upon Jesus through it all. Look at the driving force behind the mind of Paul.

13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.
-Philippians 3:13-16

The lesson we should take as believers is that we still should look unto Jesus as our Savior, as well as our Lord and run after Him.
