Galatians 3:23-25 | The Guardian

23Before this faith came, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. 24So the law became our guardian to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.
-Galatians 3:23-25 BSB
The struggle we may face in learning to draw near by faith is a very real struggle. We grew up needing to be told what was right and what was wrong. We needed rules as guardians to help keep us alive. The expectations of our parents helped many of us become the people we have become today. It was rules like not putting forks in outlets or not jumping into the fireplace that kept me from danger. As we matured, so did many of these rules.

Most of us have learned to look to rules and regulations in our lives to help keep guardrails up in our lives. With more maturity, we no longer need the rules and regulations to keep us. I understand the consequence of sticking a fork in an outlet or jumping into a fireplace. The rule guided in me a wisdom that observed the natural consequences of things. In short, the law guided me to a better way. The law is not the end. It is the beginning. It has acted as a guide to lead us into something greater.

Faith has now been revealed in Christ. The law, the rules, the regulations, all served for a time to lead us to Christ. The substance is here! We no longer need the guardian. But does this mean we are without law entirely? By no means. We are not antinomian, meaning without law. We live by the law of the Spirit of Christ Jesus. In other words, the Spirit because the measure by which we live. How do we have the Spirit again? By faith! So again, it all comes down to faith. We must believe God!

How can you draw near to the Lord by faith today?
