Hebrews 12:3-11 | What am I going to do about it?

Grateful Response

As I shared yesterday, the discipline from my father led me to want to run away. I wanted to draw back, seeing that his discipline of me was because I thought he hated me. What should the response be if I see instead that the discipline from my Heavenly Father is the result of His love for me? It should not be running away or shrinking back from His discipline. Rather, it should be meeting Him with gratefulness and gratitude in my heart.

It seems contrary to our nature. When we are faced with hurt or pain, it is natural for us to pull away. It is also natural for us to pull back from anything we may associate with that pain. However, there is pain that people pay to be apart of. Going to the gym is a great example. There is discomfort and often pain attributed to the gym. The days to follow limit the function of your body. But still, people go back and continue. Why? They're being made stronger. The change in the perspective leads them to embrace the discomfort and pain. In fact, they become excited by it. Soreness somehow feels good. It is this attitude that I want to embrace in the discipline of the Father.

After years of going to the gym and seeing the progress that has been made, I have become more and more grateful at the endurance of pushing through those difficult days. So the same, as I have been pressed by the Lord, as I have been pruned, and as I have been refined, I am nothing but thankful for how He has carried me through. Now my prayer is that I would gain the perspective and hold on to the thankfulness in the midst of the discipline.
