Hebrews 10:19-25 | What am I going to do about it?

Get A Grip

In light of hope, if the command is to hold fast to that confession of hope, then I think there may be a need to really get a grip on it. This is written to a people who are facing dire circumstances and engaged in the most hopeless of situations. Nevertheless, Scripture tells them to hold fast.

I remember going to an event a long while ago hosted by an Evangelical group of powerlifters called the Power Team. They displayed all manner of incredible feats of strength that left me in awe. One display that they do still sticks with me. They would have one of their guys grip his hands together, fingers hooked with fingers, and then call up any number of men from the audience. The men would pull on the powerlifters arms in an attempt to break his grip. Now they wouldn't do this one at a time. There would be a line of men all pulling each other on either side of the powerlifter to try to break his grip. Despite over 20 men attempting to do so, that grip could not be broken.
Consider this as the type of grip we ought to have upon hope. Regardless of what attempts to pull us from it, we hold on with everything in us and don't let go. No matter what we hold that hope in our hearts. In order to hold with that kind of grip, however, we need to train. We need daily reminders of that hope. We need to be in the word. We need to practice hope and run to God in hope that He will show up. This is what it looks like to draw near in full assurance of faith. God is faithful. So you can trust in Him.
