Hebrews 8:1-6 | What am I going to do about it?

Fresh Outlook

As I meditate on the fact that Jesus offers a better covenant and better promises, I find that I want to challenge my perspective. What promises am I believing? Not just about the Lord, but about life in general? This is the point where we actually compare the things in our lives to see that Jesus is better.

I have long held on to a belief that if everything is good, then I should be happy. If I am not happy,  that must mean I am doing something wrong. On the contrary, Jesus says blessed are those who mourn. He is near to the brokenhearted. In fact, Scripture even instructs that we are to weep with those who weep, not just help them get over it. The Lord sees our hurt. He knows the difficulty of our lives. And He provides an answer through Jesus Christ.

Another belief I have held to is that I have found the limit to God's grace. I have sinned too much. I have let Him down too often. And now, there is no way I can be forgiven. Surely the Lord will withdraw from me. Again, it is not so. How prideful must I be to assume that I, of all people, have been the one to truly contest God's grace? He is rich in mercy and rich in grace. Surely He is not counting His pennies on account me, nor on account of you. Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more.

We can run this exercise through each belief in our lives and see how Jesus responds. Remember that there is always hope in Jesus. He sees where you are and wants to be with you in it. I encourage you to reflect on His better promises and drawn near to the Lord today.

What application are you implementing today?
