John 11:1-44 | What am I going to do about it?

One of the more essential facts of the Bible is that the Lord loves His people. We tend to struggle with this concept in application because we like to be a people that do. It is great that we have an action mindset surrounding these things, but I do worry that we go too far. We start to think that it is because of what we are doing and how we are doing it that the Lord loves us. Should we fail, we can falter in our view of the love of God and think we have somehow fallen out of it. What was originally a free gift is loaded with strings that we have attached.

What we see in John 11 is very little work. The instructions given were believe, take away the stone, come forth, and loose him and let him go. The core of the whole thing was believing. If they truly believed Jesus was who He said He was, they would do as He was instructing. Let us not confuse ourselves and think they believed because of what they did. They did what they did because they believed. I think this is the same thing with the Lord.

We do not obey the Lord and then walk in His love. We abide in His love and obedience comes from that. I think something that I have personally missed through much of my life and is something I am very actively in pursuit of now is abiding in the love of God. Not necessarily am I doing anything. I am meditating on that fact and believing it. "God is my Father. My Father loves me."

So I encourage you to meditate on this Scripture and simply abide in this place.

15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
-Romans 8:15

What application are you implementing today?
