John 10:1-10 | What's happening (and who's involved)?

In this section, Jesus is continuing his discourse with the Pharisees from the man who was blind being healed. He makes some clear statements that place the opponents of Jesus face-to-face with the consequences of such a decision. Let's go through it.

Jesus begins by giving a parable. Those who enter the sheepfold by any way other than the door is a thief and a robber. They are not genuine. It is the shepherd who enters by the door, and when the shepherd speaks, the sheep know his voice. He leads them and they follow. But to a stranger, they will depart and flee, for they do not know him.

The Pharisees were not picking up what Jesus was putting down. So Jesus spelled it out for them. Jesus is the door. He is the means by which salvation is attained, and any who would enter into the sheepfold by any other means does not intend well.

10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
-John 10:10

Jesus is drawing a firm distinction here for the Pharisees. Those who come by Him are genuine. Those who go by them are endangered.
