John 9:8-41 | What's the connection?

To the larger context, John is speaking into the narrative of Jesus fulfilling the role of the Messiah and the war between belief and unbelief. It is important to remember what John's goal in writing this book is.

31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
-John 20:31

The core place where John is coming from is that the reader would believe. What we see presented is the reasoning for some unbelief, and, by contrast, the reason for belief. It is an amazing thing the Scripture does. It is causing us to reason amongst ourselves. We should be challenged to weigh the arguments just as the man who was healed did. The testimony of the man was utterly sufficient.

While the Pharisees were debating amongst themselves as to who Jesus was and accusing Him to be a sinner, the man had one prominent experience. Once he was blind, but now he saw. That alone was enough to make him doubt the accusations and believe in the testimony. It is not be faith in demons that one performed such signs. It was by the authority of the Lord that it was done.

The reason for the depth of the Pharisee's unbelief becomes even more clear when the man tries to give his testimony to them again. It is their pride. They couldn't hear the man's words and refused to give his testimony any legitimacy. At the end of it all, the Pharisees were truly the ones who were blinded while the man saw more clearly than ever.

What connections are you making?
