John 9:8-41 | What's happening (and who's involved)?

After Jesus heals the blind man, this passage follows the reaction of the people as a result of this healing. People recognized the man and knew him as one who used to beg. He was poor and dependent as a result of his condition. Despite having not directly witnessed the miracle Jesus performed, they saw the state of the man after the fact and recognized that the man had been healed some how. When asked, he shared with the people what Jesus had done and the instructions He gave. To this, the people brought the man before the Pharisees.

The Pharisees question much like the people had. Interestingly enough, the Pharisees were divided in their thoughts about the situation. Some emphasized that Jesus is not from God. Others insisted that there was no way He was a sinner as no sinner could perform such signs. Through their quarrelling they inquired of the man who was healed as to who he thought Jesus was. He said that Jesus is a prophet. Many of the Jews tried to write the man off and couldn't believe that the man was blind and had been healed. That is until they brought in mom and dad. They affirmed the reality that their son was born blind and had received sight, though they were hesitant in how they answered for fear of the Jews.

Once again, the Pharisees call to the man and declare Jesus as a sinner. The man's response is amazing.

25 He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”
-John 9:25

The Pharisees just could not accept this miracle. They asked again how Jesus performed the miracle. Finally the man addresses their unbelief. As a result, the Pharisees cast him out from among them.

Jesus receiving the news of this, finds the man and asks if he believes in the Son of God. The man responds inquiring of who He is. Jesus reveals that it is Himself. The man responds with belief and worships Jesus. Jesus further reveals some of His purpose in being there - judgment; that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.

Some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard what Jesus had said and asked of their own state. Jesus throws their own state right back at them. They claim to see and their sin remains.
