John 8:12-59 | What is the lesson for me today?

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.
-Ephesians 5:1

I believe in Jesus. I submit to Him as Lord. This means, based on what we have been studying John, that I come from my Father, God. Now there is yet another layer to this. The son reflects the Father. If I am a child of God, my actions, my thoughts, and my being should all reflect that of the Father. It is an interesting question that we like to raise to help us gauge our conduct. "What would Jesus do?" Some people have some clever responses, and I believe the most popular is, "He would love first." But we must take note of what Jesus first does. He first submits to the Father. He does what the Father is already doing and instructs that we would look unto the Father for how we ought to conduct ourselves.

48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
-Matthew 5:48

The challenge for me is clear. Not only can I simply believe that Jesus is my Lord, I have to live like that. I have to look unto the Father and see what He is doing, that I might emulate it. All the more so, I must be intentional with the study of the Word and prayer.

What lesson are you taking away?
