John 7:1-13 | What's the connection?

There is a major connection in this passage, and I am wondering if you caught it. It has to do with the time of the year. I find it pretty indicative that Jesus' time was not the Feast of Tabernacles. Bible scholars have long locked in to the fact that Jesus's death happened on the Passover. Most have recognized the significance of the Feasts in Scripture pointing to different fulfillments of what Jesus was accomplishing. The time Jesus was looking toward was His death. The time everyone else was looking for was the Messianic rule and reign. And that's what His brothers sought for Him to reveal.

“Depart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. 4 For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.”
-John 7:3b-4

They didn't even realize all they were asking, but it seems to tie closely together with the revelation of the Messiah dwelling, or tabernacling, over the people. To tabernacle means to dwell. While Jesus was in fact dwelling among mankind, it is not until Revelation that we see the fulfillment of God tabernacling among His people. The first coming of Christ is fulfilled by the Spring feasts (Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Weeks). The second coming of Christ fulfills the Fall feasts (Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles).

It is relatively common knowledge that the people were looking for Jesus to be more of a political power and physical savior, and that they missed the point all together. It seems also that Jesus' own family missed that point. Jesus was on a mission. That mission was far from the thoughts of all, but by that mission, we are saved.

What connections are you making?
