John 6:60-71 | What's the connection?

Let's propose this question: why did the people have such a hard time understanding the teaching that Jesus gave? It is for the same reason Nicodemus was missing Jesus' teaching in John 3. They were looking from an earthly/fleshly perspective instead of a heavenly/spiritual perspective. The core reason they were missing the viewpoint Jesus was speaking from was due to their unbelief. See again how Jesus responds to the people's complaint.

Does this offend you? 62 What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe.
-John 6:61-64

What do you notice in what Jesus is saying? Is He not highlighting the fact that He isn't speaking literally but in spiritual terms? To add to that, He addresses what is in their hearts. They do not believe. As such, they miss out on what Jesus is sharing with them.

Now this is an unfortunately common issue throughout Scripture. Mankind frequently failed to see how the Lord would perform what He promised, simply because of a failed perspective rooted in unbelief.

What connections are you seeing?
