John 6:60-71 | What's happening (and who's involved)?

Directly following Jesus' teaching on needing to partake of Him, the people who were listening were perplexed and put off by it. By their own admission, they failed to understand what Jesus was saying. The very One who had earned the appeal of the masses was now the One who was speaking in such a way that deterred the people. Rather than Jesus backpedaling on what He was saying, He doubled down.

He turned to those who were complaining against Him and questioned them.

Does this offend you? 62 What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe.
-John 6:61-64

Having heard these words of Jesus, the people do not repent and continue in following after Him. They turn away. And it says they walked with Him no more. Jesus, having spoken the depths of truth, is not anymore deterred by this either, but instead turns to His core twelve and opens the door wide for them to exit as well. But Peter responds on their behalf and gives an answer that testifies of great faith.

“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
-John 6:68-69

The response of Jesus can only be taken as satisfaction of this. Yet, even still, He highlights that one of their heart's is far from Him.

What observations are you making?
